New Pastel Work by Judith Reidy

It has been exciting to be working in pastel again.  Such delicacy and fresh unfading color.
One of the qualities I appreciate about pastel is that the color never fades or yellows with age.  These images came from trips into the country this fall.

Fred Bell and I, Judith Reidy Start Paintings at McCarthy Park

Yesterday it was our first really warm day for 2012.  So as our tradition goes, Fred and I always find a place to paint.  This year it was the north end of McCarty park in West Allis.  We both had a great start on our respective paintings and had a lot of laughs.

You should know that
Fred Bell
  has his
opening tonight at the Portrait Gallery.
It is a great exhibition.

You know this is the painting I did at Cedarburg's Riversedge Competition from the Bird View house. It was a drizzly day that ended in a haze with a steely blue sky.

Now I enjoyed painting my neighbors front yard in the morning light, which cast a shadow on the front of the building. I laid in my design quickly and the shadow pattern and stuck to it. I love the way the tree catches the sunlight.

In doing this scene I had this idea of a dark pathway enveloped by walls and shrubbery leading into light. I did this in preparation for the Paint the Festival submission at the Cedarburg Plein Air Event. It was a great place to paint in the shade with a gentle cooling breeze, away from the hustle and bustle.
